Just Add Water to Oddworld

As of late, a curious character going by AbeMudokon has been teasing the gaming community via Twitter. Incase the two parts of that name don’t ring a bell, they’re referring to Abe, a mudokon, from the Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Exoddus games created by Oddworld Inhabitants. The last game in the Oddworld series was Stranger’s Wrath which was released back in 2005, and things have been pretty quiet from them. The only other rumblings we’ve heard since then were that the last two Oddworld titles, Stranger’s Wrath and Munch’s Oddysee, will be coming to Steam “soon.”
Until now that is. On July 14th ‘Abe’ had this to say regarding the future, “In less than 48hrs, the truth will start to come out.... Sssssssssh.” Yesterday a new post was made on the Just Add Water blog confirming they’re involvement in multiple new games, in collaboration with Oddworld Inhabitants.

It’s with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants, from what started off as brief discussions in June 2009, to now working on multiple projects, across multiple platforms.
Whilst we cannot go into specifics right now, we can tell you that over the coming weeks and months we will be announcing these exciting projects starring all of your favourite Oddworld characters.
“To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic,” said Just Add Water’s Managing Director Stewart Gilray.
“It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.”

From the sound of things, we might be seeing new entries in the sagas of Stranger, Munch, and Abe, and maybe even a new protagonist. Who knows, but the future of the Oddworld franchise looks pretty bright, and it’s good to see such a bizarre and awesome series of games getting some attention. Also, keep an eye out today. If this announcement is what we get one day after Abe’s tweet, I look forward to seeing what the Oddworld folks have behind the curtain for today.
